The Reserve Bank of Australia has appointed Dr Claude Lopez as Head of the Economic Research Department within its Economic Group, effective 1 September 2025.

In the role, Dr Lopez will oversee the Bank’s long-term research agenda spanning the economy, the operation of monetary policy and other areas linked to the RBA’s mandate.

Dr Lopez joined the RBA in 2023 as Deputy Head of the Financial Stability Department. Before that, she was Chief Research Officer at the Milken Institute, held senior positions at the Banque de France and served as a Professor of Economics at the University of Cincinnati.

She holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Houston and a Master of Science in Econometrics from the Toulouse School of Economics.

The appointment underscores the central bank’s emphasis on strengthening its research capabilities within the Economic Group as it continues to inform policy with evidence-based analysis.
